Mughal Gardens of Delhi

Located in the premises of the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Mughal Gardens is one of the historic gardens of utmost importance in India. The Mughal Garden is famous for the wide variety of flowers that are found in here and some of which are rare and even extinct in other parts of the nation.

The Mughal Garden is spread over an area of about 13 acres of land is a great combination of the Mughal and the British styles. It was designed by Sir Edwin Lutynes for Lady Harding. This garden was built by the British and takes its inspiration from exotic the Mughal style. This is well depicted in the style and design of the fountains, canals and terraces. ADS_TO_REPLACE_1

The entire garden has been divided into three long and circular gardens named as the Pearl Garden, Butterfly Garden, and the Circular Garden. Two channels run from North to South and two from East to West, thus, making a grid of squares. There are six lotus shaped fountains which are established at the crossings of these channels, giving the garden a Mughal look. There are two big lawns. The Central Lawn is square in shape and each side is of 45 meters while the East Lawn is rectangular in shape and is a little bit smaller than the Central Lawn. The lawns are covered from 'doob' grass brought from Belvedere Estate, Kolkata (Calcutta, at that time) during the inception of the gardens.

The garden is decorated by various kinds of trees and flowering shrubs. The garden is full of tress such as Moulsri, Cypress, China Orange trees and various rose shrubs. There are various flowering trees such as Raat ki Rani, Marigold, Sweet William, Bougainvillea, Viscaria, and many creepers like the Climbing Roses, the Rangoon Creepers and many others.

The garden has a variety of over 250 species of roses in the world which makes it one of the best rose gardens of the globe. It has roses of almost all colors and sizes. The black roses of Oklahoma, the blue roses like the Blue Moon and Lady X etc. There is some variety of green roses also. These roses have been named after some of the eminent personalities of India such as Mother Teresa, Jawahar, Bhim, Arjun, Dr. B. P. Pal, and Raja Ram Mohan Roy. The international celebrities that have found place here are John F. Kennedy, Queen Elizabeth, Mr. Lincoln and Montezuma. During the winter season the garden is full of many annually growing shrubs such as Alyssum, Calendula, Larkspur, Gaznia, Linaria, and Portilaca. These are grown properly in flower beds. Other important annuals that are grown are Dahlia, Aster, Chrysanthemum, Sweet Pea, Cineraria, Cosmos etc. These are used as pyramids of various heights and colors.

Apart from these rare and beautiful flowers that adorn the garden premises, The Mughal Gardens are also home to some of the beautiful avian beings of the world. The peacock ? the national bird of India, can be seen during the evenings, showing off its splendid consorts in pride. A lapwing can also be seen meditating once in a while. The garden also has a Spotbiils i.e. the resident ducks of Delhi regions. Apart from them the gardens are a home to other birds such as Mynahs, Parrots, and Dovesm Pigeons.

The Mughal garden is open for public visit for a very short period of time. This is a place where you can enjoy lush green and scenic beauty. This beautiful garden is a nice place to enjoy a family picnic in the spring.ADS_TO_REPLACE_3
