The history of modern Dharamshala dates back to 1905 AD when an earthquake ruined it devastatingly. The town rebuilt from a scratch became popular as a health resort. Dharamshala of today is divided into two parts. The lower part houses offices and trading hubs, while upper part houses historically important McLeod Ganj and Forsythe Ganj. This small town is now world renowned as headquarters of Tibetan government in exile headed by His Holiness Dalai Lama.

The summer destination of Dharamshala is home to a number of tourist attractions that include Kangra Art museum at Kotwali bazar, War memorial, Kunal Pathri temple and tea gardens among other things. The town of Dharamshala has added another gem in its crown as it has added a magnificent Cricket stadium to its kitty.
