A modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP. It shares all GIMP?s advantages, including the long feature list and customizability, while addressing some common criticisms regarding the program?s interface: GIMPshop modifies the menu structure to closely match Photoshop?s, adjusts the program?s terminology to match Adobe?s, and, in the Windows version, uses a plugin called ?Deweirdifier? to combine the application?s numerous windows in a similar manner to the MDI system used by most Windows graphics packages. From March 2006, it suports Photoshop plugins, through a host plugin, called pspi, and all GIMP?s own plugins, filters, brushes, etc. remain available.
- The official AWeb Open Source Project
Some people have downloaded AWeb 3.5.07 from a link that is posted on our developer list and made it a news item on some Amiga related news sites. This link is posted regularly to developers who want to test a build before we release it. The builds which are linked to here are not official builds. Two reasons for this is:
1. We don't want to accept floods of bug reports on things that might be fixed in updates to the build.
2. The final 3.5.07 build may not be the same as the build you've downloaded from Andy Broad's site. This means there will be versioning problems and confusion will arise. This is why we never released 3.5.06.

The discontinued 1.0 version also supports the Motorola 680x0. The following operating systems are supported: Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X/Darwin, Mac OS classic, DOS, Win32, OS/2, Netware (libc and classic) and MorphOS. - Homeland Security helps secure open-source code
Through its Science and Technology Directorate, the department has given $1.24 million in funding to Stanford University, Coverity and Symantec to hunt for security bugs in open-source software and to improve Coverity's commercial tool for source code analysis, representatives for the three grant recipients told CNET News.com. The Homeland Security Department grant will be paid over a three-year period, with $841,276 going to Stanford, $297,000 to Coverity and $100,000 to Symantec, according to San Francisco-based technology provider Coverity, which plans to announce the award publicly on Wednesday.

- Asterisk The Open Source PBX
The Asterisk Development Team today released Asterisk 1.2.9.1 and Asterisk 1.0.11.1 to address a security vulnerability in the IAX2 channel driver (chan_iax2). The vulnerability affects all users with IAX2 clients that might be compromised or used by a malicious user, and can lead to denial of service attacks and random Asterisk server crashes via a relatively trivial exploit. All users are urged to upgrade as soon as they can practically do so, or ensure that they don't expose IAX2 services to the public if it is not necessary. The release files are available in the usual place (ftp.digium.com), as both tarballs and patch files relative to the last release. In addition, both the tar balls and the patch files have been signed using GPG keys of the release maintainers, so that you can ensure their authenticity.

FFmpeg got 5 projects in the Google Summer of Code program. Checkout the FFmpeg SoC about page for more information about the 5 projects. FFmpeg cvs to svn transition is completed. The cvs server is now retired. The project is made of several components: ffmpeg is a command line tool to convert one video file format to another. It also supports grabbing and encoding in real time from a TV card.
ffserver is an HTTP (RTSP is being developped) multimedia streaming server for live broadcasts. Time shifting of live broadcast is also supported. ffplay is a simple media player based on SDL and on the FFmpeg libraries.
