Sometimes these programs allows the maker of this software to collect and disseminate information your personal information. These programs are called Spywares. Spyware, Keylogger, and Adware (collectively known as "Scumware") are being secretly installed on your computer when you install some programs from the internet. These programs are designed to track Internet users surfing habits, they can even abuse Internet connection by sending this data to a third party. These programs are usually hijacks browser start page or pages and shows irrelevant adds to the users without users permission. This are very dangerous and it can even send your usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and more to third party. 

Adware is softwares displays the advertisements on your computer. These software displays ads as pop up on your display screen, even if you're not browsing the Internet. In fact some companies provide "free" software in exchange for advertising on your display. It's how they make their money.

Spyware is software sends the personal information entered by you in browser to a third party without your permission or knowledge. This can include information about Web sites you visit or something more sensitive like your user name and password.
