  1. The Reference Manual
The Adaptive Server Reference Manual is a guide to Sybase(R) Adaptive Server(TM) Enterprise and the Transact-SQL(R) language. This book describes the "building blocks" of Transact-SQL, which are datatypes, built-in functions, expressions and identifiers, SQLSTATE errors, and reserved words. Before you can use Transact-SQL successfully, you need to understand the function of each of these building blocks and how its use affects the results of Transact-SQL statements. This book provides reference information about the Transact-SQL commands, which you use to create statements. It also provides reference information about system procedures, catalog stored procedures, extended stored procedures, and dbcc stored procedures. All procedures are created using Transact-SQL statements.

  2. The performance and Tuning guide
Performance is the measure of efficiency of an application or multiple applications running in the same environment. Performance is usually measured in response time and throughput. Tuning is optimizing performance. A system model of Adaptive Server and its environment can be used to identify performance problems at each layer. A major part of tuning is reducing contention for system resources. As the number of users increases, contention for resources such as data and procedure caches, spinlocks on system resources, and the CPU(s) increases. The probability of lock contention on data pages also increases.

  3. The Java adaptive server enterprise
This book describes how to install and use Java classes and methods in the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise database. Adaptive Server provides a runtime environment for Java, which means that Java code can be executed in the server. Building a runtime environment for Java in the database server provides powerful new ways of managing and storing both data and logic.
    * You can use the Java programming language as an integral part of Transact-SQL.
    * You can reuse Java code in the different layers of your application--client, middle-tier, or server--and use them wherever makes most sense to you.
    * Java in Adaptive Server provides a more powerful language than stored procedures for building logic into the database.
    * Java classes become rich, user-defined data types.

  4. Data Replication with SQL Remote
SQL Remote is a data-replication technology designed for two-way replication between a consolidated data server and large numbers of remote databases, typically including many mobile databases. SQL Remote replication is message based, and requires no direct server-to-server connection. An occasional dial-up or e-mail link is sufficient. Administration and resource requirements at the remote sites are minimal. The time lag between the consolidated and remote databases is configurable, and can range from minutes to hours or days.

  5. The Ultralite Developer's Guide
This manual describes the UltraLite technology for Adaptive Server Anywhere. UltraLite allows you to deploy database applications to small or mobile embedded devices, such as devices running the Palm Computing Platform or Windows CE. UltraLite is a deployment technology for Adaptive Server Anywhere aimed at mobile devices and embedded devices. Intended platforms include cell phones, pagers, and personal organizers. The purpose of UltraLite is to provide the functionality and reliability of a SQL database running on these devices and the ability to synchronize data with your central database management system, while maintaining an extremely small footprint.
