  1. Introduction of SQL Server
Introducing Sybase SQL Server for Workplace UNIX introduces the features and capabilities of Sybase(R) SQL Server(TM) for Workplace UNIX, an integrated set of Sybase products for developing client/server database applications. This manual provides a starting point for:
    * System administrators and other privileged users, who perform administrative tasks for the SQL Server for Workplace UNIX installation as a whole
    * Database owners, who create and manage databases
    * Application developers, who write programs to access the information in SQL Server databases

  2. The Sybase adaptive server enterprise release 11.5
This document also covers the new features added and system changes made in releases 10.0 and 11.0. This is provided for users who are upgrading to release 11.5 from release 4.9.x or 10.0.x. For Adaptive Server release 11.5, sybinit, the command line installation program on UNIX platforms, has been replaced by a set of easy-to-use graphical installation and upgrade utilities. These utilities are accessible from a common desktop application, sybsetup, that you can download from your Sybase CD. You need an X Windows/Motif-based system interface to use the new utilities in graphical mode. You can also execute the utilities in UNIX command mode.

  3. Installing Adaptive Server Enterprise on Siemens
Adaptive Server communicates with other Adaptive Servers, Open Server(TM) applications (such as Backup Server), and client software on your network. Clients can talk to one or more servers, and servers can communicate with other servers, by remote procedure calls.  For Sybase products to interact with one another, each product needs to know where the others reside on the network. This information is stored in an interfaces file, named interfaces on UNIX platforms, located in the Adaptive Server installation directory. After your Adaptive Server or client software is installed, it can connect with any server on the network that is listed in the interfaces file.  The interfaces file is like an address book. It lists the name and address of every known server.

  4. The Installing adaptive server enterprise on SCO UnixWare
There are some guide provided this books. The few reason are following here:-
    * An overview of the Sybase(R) Adaptive Server Enterprise(TM) Enterprise installation infrastructure
    * Instructions for installing and upgrading Adaptive Server Enterprise, and installing Backup Server, Monitor Server, XP Server, and client products, including the Adaptive Server plug-in for Sybase Central(TM)
    * Instructions for installing optional Adaptive Server Enterprise functionality, such as auditing, sample databases, and two-phase commit transactions, and localization information.

  5. The installing adaptive server enterprise on Aviion
The Adaptive Server installation and setup process defines various user roles. Different user roles have different responsibilities and privileges. These user roles clarify the way Adaptive Server is to be integrated into your system:
Operating System Administrator :-The individual who maintains the operating system. This individual has super user or "root" privileges.
System Administrator :-The individual in charge of Adaptive Server system administration, creating user accounts, assigning permissions on databases, and creating new databases. At installation time, the System Administrator's login name is "sa". The "sa" login is not a UNIX login. The "sa" login is specific to Adaptive Server Enterprise and is used to log in to Adaptive Server Enterprise using the isql command.
Sybase Login: -The "sybase" login is a UNIX login that owns all the Sybase installation directories and files, sets permissions on those directories and files, and performs the installation and upgrading of Adaptive Server Enterprise.
