How does it feel to be cool, popular person in school? I often wonder because I, myself, Im a simple, shytype kind of girl, ever since grade school. I belong to the so-called "uncool" people who hang around the dark corners of the campus, eyeing the cool ones enviously, as they flip their hair, display their cute little accesories and talk about other aqually popular people in the campus.
It is hard to accept that i cannot be like them. I can't catch attention just by walking down the hallway. I can't be cool because I dont wear the latest trends or use the latest cellphone. I couldn't be cool even if my life depended on it.
Being cool is just being yourself my mom once said. It is how you carry your clothes not how your clothes carry you. It doesn't matter if your dress is from paris or ukay-ukay. She even told me that these cool people I envy are just like me, outside they may look calm and poised but inside insecurities are eating them out, bigtime.
Once in my life I tried to act like these cool people. I copied the way they dress, talk and walk. Did I get noticed? Did I become popular? Duh! of course, not! Not only did I turn out to be a big joke, I also lost my identity and even got tagged as second rate, trying hard, copycat, Arrrgghh!! I felt like I was in the movie, but not as Ate Shawie.. I was a walking punchline.
So, from then on, I stuck to my own simple self. I learned my lesson the hard way. It is not important if you are cool or not, all that matters is how you appreciate yourself and being confident with who you are and what you have.
I also learned that these cool people are not so cool at all. Wouldn't it be annoying if everyone is watching every move you make? You can't just be yourself at any time. You have to make sure that every little action you make wiil live you up to other's expectations of you. You must look pretty all the time or else your so-called friends will abondon you. These cool people may look sooooo gooood..... but their mentality might be tossing up and down, thinking on what to do next so that their crown won't be snatched by equally cool wannabe. Yikes! Sounds scary, huh?
well, maybe being simple is not so bad at all. Atleast, I can eat all I want without worrying about ruining my figure. I can do anything without those silly eyes watching and most of all, I am sure that I have true friends who will stand by me through thick and thin....
