What do you mean by broad band?
When ISDN was originally designed rates of data of 64 kpbs to 1.544 mbps were sufficient to handle existing transmission requirements. As applications which use the telecommunication type of network advanced these rates proved inadequate to support many applications. In addition the original band width proved to narrow to carry the large number of concurrent signals produced by a growing industry of digital service providers. Thus to provide the requirements of the next generation of technology an extension of ISDN called broad band was brought about.
