Wallis and Futuna Islands is a French Overseas collectivity located in the South Pacific Ocean. It is comprised of three tropical volcanic islands and number of islets. Wallis Islands are located in the northeast and Futuna Islands are located in the southwest. Dutch and British were the original discoverers of these islands though now these islands have been a part of French since 1961.
Wallis and Futuna Islands are located at the geographical coordinates of 13.3 South and 176.2 West. These islands are spread over an area of 264 square kilometres.. Mata-Utu is the capital and the largest city of Wallis and Futuna Islands. A population of around 16000 lives in the island according to the 2009 census. Wallis and Futuna Islands are in the neighbourhood of countries like Tonga in the southeast, Tuvalu in the southwest, Rotuma of the Fiji in the west, Samoa in the east and Tokelau in the northeast.
Wallis is the island with majority of the population in the country. Mont Puke at a height of 1719 feet is the most elevated peak of the islands.
Economy of the country is driven by agriculture, which employs 80% of the total employed population. Apart from agriculture, the industries that take the economy of the island forward are fishing, copra and handicrafts.
