Trinidad and Tobago is an archipelagic country located in the southern Caribbean waters. Conquered by Spanish after the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1498, the islands of Trinidad and Tobago have been colonized by countries like Dutch, French and Britain during the 18th and 19th century.
Trinidad and Tobago is located at the geographical coordinates of 11 North and 61 West. Spread over an area of 5,131 square kilometres, it is home to a population of 1,310,000 people, making it the 48th most densely populated country in the world. In the Lesser Antilles, it lies south of Grenada. Its maritime boundaries are shared with Venezuela in the south and west, Guyana in the southeast and Barbados in the northeast. Port of Spain is the capital of Trinidad and Tobago while San Fernando is its largest city.
Geographically, these islands are considered as a part of West Indies. The topography of the islands is a mix of mountains and plains. The southern plains of the islands contain Nariva Swamp and Naparima Plains. El Cerro del Aripo in the northern range contains the most elevated peak of the country at a height of 3080 feet. Home to some beautiful plants, Warszewiczia coccinea is the most beautiful flower found in Trinidad and Tabogo.
Trinidad and Tobago has a high-income developed economy. Tourism, Petroleum and Manufacturing industry are the mainstays of the economy of these islands.
Trinidad and Tobago is the birthplace of widely loved Calypso music. There are many colourful cultural festivals held in the country every year.
