One of the fastest growing economies of Central America, Panama is a country located in the southernmost of the Continent. Conquered by Spanish in the 16th century, Panama achieved independence from them in 1821 and later from Colombia in 1903. Panama has a high rate of Human Development Index, which makes it ranked 4th in Latin America.

Panama is located at the geographical coordinates of 9° North and 80° West. The total area to which Panama is spread is 75,517 square kilometres. It has a total population of 3,405,810 according to 2010 census. Panama shares its boundaries with Columbia in the southeast and Costa Rica in the northwest. Pacific Ocean is to the south of Panama while Caribbean Sea is at the north of it. It contains the isthmus connecting North and South America. Panama City is the capital and the largest city of the country.

The geography of Panama is dominated by mountains. The mountain range of Cordillera de Talamanca lies near its border with Costa rica. Volcán Barú is the most elevated peak in the country at a height of 1,401 feet. The tropical climate of Panama has little seasonal variations. Temperature in summers may go up to 35° C, but that's very rare.

Music and art form the core of Panama's culture and they are deeply influenced by the European forms. Festivals of dance and music are held every year attended by the inhabitants and well as the tourists.
