French Southern Territories are the group of volcanic islands in the Indian Ocean located at southeast of Africa. They are formerly called as Territory of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. Numerous scattered islands on the Indian ocean also form a part of this French territory.

The geographical coordinates of French Southern Territories are 43° South and 67° East. French Southern Territories are spread over a total area of 439781 square kilometers. There is no permanent population found here. The only people that live here are scientific researchers, military personnel and some officials representing the civil society. Adelie Island, which is a part of Antarctica, also comes under the dominion of French Southern Teritories. Fish and crayfish are found in large numbers in this island.
