Djibouti is a country in Somali Peninsula, also called Horn of Africa. Located in the Northeast Africa, Djibouti shares its border with Ethiopia to the west, Somalia to the southeast and Eritrea to the north. Red Sea and Gulf of Eden form rest of the border. It is spanned over a total area of 23,200 square kilometers with a population of 864,000. The capital of Djibouti is the city Djibouti. Almost all of Djibouti's land is desert. Rough plateaus make up for the interiors. Lake Assal covers a number of basins and lowlands. Djibouti is one of the poorest nations of the world. There is acute food shortage in most of the places due to lack of absence of crops and thus no agriculture. Food has to be imported from neighboring countries. Unemployment rate of as high as 40% to 50% is another area of major concern. Education system though influenced by France is not up to the mark. Efforts are being made by foreign countries to stabilize the economy of Djibouti.
