Freed from the European rule in 1958, the colony of Ubangi-Shari formed a nation and named their country 'Central African Republic'. Located in middle of Africa, Central African Republic is spanned over an area of 622,984 square kilometers. It shares its boundary with Sudan to the east, Cameroon to the west, Chad to the North and Republic of the Congo to the south. A population of around 4,422,000 people resides in the country.

Situated at the geographical coordinates of 7° North and 21° East, Central African Republic is completely landlocked. The flat, rolling plateau of Savanna dominates its geography. The granite plateau of Yade Massif lies in the northwest of the country while the Fertit hills are to the northeast. The Congo River runs along the southern border and the Ubangi River runs in the east.

Central African Republic experiences tropical climate. Because of the fact that a large part of Central African Republic is covered with desert, it experiences a hot and humid climate. The other parts of the country receive rainfall in abundance due to the nearby rivers.

Diamonds are found in large quantities in this part of the world. Thus they play a huge role in its economy, since they are an important export of Central African Republic.

The rare Forest elephants are also found here. Some national parks have a variety of wildlife that includes rhinos, leopards and lions.
