Describe three tier architecture in detail?

Three tier architecture appear in the JDBC where First tier is the client using the browser to send request to server as the Second tier that send the command to database server as the Third tier. for more details at: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/jdbc/overview/index.html
